About
A data scientist who spent years in the business, not just the notebook
I work at the intersection of analytics engineering, BI and statistics — most comfortable when a model, a dashboard and a stakeholder conversation are all part of the same problem.
I started as an analyst inside operations teams, which shaped how I work: close to the people using the numbers, sceptical of metrics nobody can define, and biased toward the smallest model that changes a decision.
Today I lead forecasting and BI work for a national retail group, owning everything from the warehouse layer through certified Power BI reporting used by hundreds of people weekly. Before that I built clinical operations reporting across eleven hospital sites and consulted across logistics and financial services.
Outside client work I write about data storytelling, mentor early-career analysts through a community programme, and maintain a small library of SQL patterns for cohort and retention analysis.
Principles
How I approach analytics work
Start from the decision
Before a single query, I write down who decides what, how often, and what would change their mind. That framing kills half the requested charts.
Trustworthy before clever
Tested transformations, documented metric definitions and reconciled totals. A model nobody believes is worth nothing.
Narrative over dashboards
Numbers land when they are sequenced: what happened, why, what it costs, what to do next.
Ship and monitor
Models go into scheduled pipelines with drift checks and clear owners, not into a notebook nobody reruns.
